What Discrimination Wrapped in a Misunderstanding Looks Like

When you look at the image above what do you see? A black man in a tie with locs and two others looking on?
Can you tell what his level of professionalism is? Or what he brings to the table? What kind of upbringing he has, what he values or what his morals are?
His name is Jeffrey Thornton and he was recently told that the job he moved from Florida to San Diego for was contingent on him cutting his hair.
He had been employed with Encore Global since 2016 in Florida but was laid off in 2020 due to the pandemic. Upon hearing the company was hiring in California and at the recommendation of his colleagues, he showed up for the November 1st interview, hoping to bounce right back into his previous Technical Supervisor position. “I was told I was recommended by my East Coast references, and I should find the transition to be no problem,” he told Fox 5 San Diego.
After a stellar interview the only thing left to talk about was dress code. He figured he may have to remove his ear gauges and trim his beard a bit. He never expected having to cut his hair. But when the hiring manager told him he would have to cut it so that it wouldn’t touch his ears, eyes or shoulders, he suggested pulling it back away from his face, which was…
