That’s exactly how myself as does many people of color feel as we watch these films. It is a reminder of the gore and inhumane treatment of black people. It tests my hope for justice and equality every single time. And these movies come out every year so of course we appreciate reliving what our ancestors endured all in the name of freedom. What it does do for me is that it forces me to celebrate the strength and perseverance of the shoulders I stand on. Knock us down 100 times. We’ll stand again for 101. So as hard as it is to watch it is a reminder how far we’ve come and how much work there is still left to do.
