Republicans in Minnesota Don’t Care About Their Citizens
But try and blame it on Democrats
If you have not heard, a bill may pass soon giving newly released felons in Minnesota the right to vote. What does this have to do with Republicans? Because, instead of being honest about not wanting felons to have the right to vote, they blame it on which way they are more prone to vote. Shouldn’t the ‘Publicans be asking themselves why the voters would vote for the Dems and maybe fix their policies so that votes will swing more their way? Way too much like right, huh?
“Minnesota families are expecting legislators to develop solutions to reduce record breaking crime and violence. Instead, Minnesota Senate Democrats are leaving Minnesotans vulnerable by focusing on providing full state privileges and benefits of convicted felons and non-citizens here illegally,” Senate Republican Minority Leader Mark Johnson said in a statement following the vote.
Now, Mr. Minority Leader, did you ever consider this from the convicted felon’s perspective? Of course not so, shall we? Here is someone who’s acclimated to a life behind bars. Out here in society where life is moving at an astronomical rate, can you imagine what someone who’s on lock down for months or years is experiencing once they are out here? Forget what they went in for, once they are out, the goal is to keep them out and reintroduce them back to society. In doing so, restoring their rights due to them as a citizen could reduce the record breaking crime and violence you speak of.
The reason so many individuals end up back in the system is due to societal and economic issues that prevent them from thriving. For previously incarcerated individuals, voting is probably the last thing on their list to think about. They have to find jobs in a climate where hardly anyone wants to hire ex-felons as well as learning to live in a way less structured environment ran on technology. However, restoring their right to vote may open up more avenues for previously incarcerated people.
