Life is only a Pink Perfect Attendance Pencil

Taylor the pink pencil in a sea of yellow ones

Were you one of those kids that prided yourself in making it to school everyday to ensure you had perfect attendance?

Taylor is.

And her diligence earned her a pink perfect attendance pencil.

That was “stolen” by her classmate.

And her teacher nor her mother saw it as a big deal.

And the internet call her sassy.

And here is what is wrong with all this.

We are taught that if you work hard, you will be rewarded. If you watch the video above, you will see Taylor was the only student with a perfect attendance pencil because she showed up daily and did the work.

Yes she is only a second grader but skills, work ethic and responsibility comes at all stages of life.

Her having her pencil stolen is equivalent to us earning one of our countless desires, only to have someone come along and swipe it. To be awarded something that you take pride in, for it to be acknowledged and celebrated, and then to have it downplayed like no big deal?

Who doesn’t want to have the pink pencil in the sea of yellow ones?

Accomplishments that stand out, that elevate you and gives you a sense of pride and something to be proud of?

Aren’t we all seeking these things in some form?

My hope is if you find yourself in Taylor’s position and you feel stripped of something you’ve worked hard for, because showing up sometimes is the hardest battle, that you confront it head on and don’t back down.

Because it’s in your right, and you’ve earned that too.
